Triune Specialty Trailers Recognized by State Capitol
Madison Heights, Michigan
Triune Specialty Trailers was recognized at a special presentation and demonstration at the State Capitol Rotunda on June 10. Michigan State Senator Wayne Schmidt (R, 37th District) recognized the success of the “Fab Lab,” a mobile education and training vehicle. Tom Erhart, Director of Entrepreneurship for the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance (NLEA), presented the Fab Lab to legislative guests and recognized the key public/private organizations that contributed to its success.
The Fab Lab is a state-of-the-art mobile training classroom that is used to train students for high-demand and high-tech machining careers as Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) programmers. Madison Heights-based Triune Specialty Trailers designed and created the Fab Lab for the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance (NLEA) and North Central Michigan College. Michigan manufacturers have many openings for skilled machinist positions, and the Fab Lab was created to enable students to get the needed skills as well as to create awareness about careers in manufacturing. In his remarks, Senator Schmidt noted, “Michigan has great higher education but we also have great career and technical education, and the Fab Lab brings that education right to the students.”
Harry Kurtz, president of Triune Specialty Trailers, added, “The Fab Lab is instrumental in filling a skills and employment gap, and Triune is honored to be a part of its success. Using mobile classrooms to facilitate STEM education and initiatives is an exciting prospect for the state of Michigan.”
The Fab Lab is a unique solution that brings both awareness and education to Michigan students. “It has been a fantastic resource to be able to train young people and expose them to careers in manufacturing technology and modern manufacturing,” said Tom Erhart. “Students have the opportunity to get jobs right out of high school or after completing a 2-year degree.”
At the afternoon ceremony, Schmidt and Erhart recognized the unique public/private collaboration that was critical to the success of the Fab Lab. Organizations, educational institutions and private businesses involved include: MEDC, NLEA, North Central Michigan College, Triune Specialty Trailers, East Jordan Schools, Central Lake Schools, Charlevoix County, Charlevoix Community Foundation, Moeller Aerospace, Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation, Precision Edge Surgical Products Company, Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District, Boyne City Public Schools, Michigan Works!, Networks Northwest, Oliver Racing, Industrial Magnetics, Inc., EJ, and Little Travers Bay Band.
